The weather has finally broken and we can get back to fall! We love to get out and about this time of year to enjoy the beautiful scenery throughout the state. Here are a few of our favorite activities to enjoy this fall:
- Scenic drives: While the whole state could be considered a scenic drive this time of year, one of our favorite drives is along Route 12 from Montpelier to Lake Elmore. We recommend starting the trip in Montpelier with brunch at Down Home Kitchen, a great local eatery, and ending in Lake Elmore with an easy hike up the mountain or cool paddle on the pristine lake. Be sure to stop at the Elmore Store for a quick snack before you go! This route also connects to Stowe via Route 100, another one of our favorite routes.
- Danville Corn Maze: Holding the honor of being New England’s largest corn maze, this fun family activity is nestled in Vermont’s beautiful North East Kingdom (NEK). Be prepared to devote several hours to finding your way out!
- Champlain Bikeway: With over 1,600 miles of bike trails, there are many options for ever level of rider. One of our favorite rides is around Lake Champlain. Starting along the Burlington Bike Path, This route heads north through the islands, crossing over into New York at Rouse’s Point and running down the western shores of the lake before returning to Vermont at the Crown Point Bridge and continuing north back to Burlington. Much of this route also makes for a beautiful car ride.
- Apple Picking: Nothing says fall quite like a trip to an apple orchard. There are countless orchards around our region, with many hosting fun activities on the weekends. Some our favorite orchards include Chapin’s in Essex, Adam’s Apple Orchard in Williston, and Shelburne Orchards in Shelburne.
We hope you get out and enjoy all Vermont has to offer this time of year. The whole state seems to come alive as the leaves change colors!
